Income Assistance Services

Cash Assistance

Families with children who are in need may be eligible for cash assistance through the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families Program (formerly Aid to Dependent Children. Eligible families receive a monthly cash payment and other financial assistance such as Food Stamps and Medicaid. Adults in the household will need to be prepared to work toward becoming self sufficient by participating in education, training or by work at job sites. Those interested in applying for Cash Assistance, Food Stamps or Medicaid will need to contact us to arrange an appointment at the telephone numbers or e-mail address below. You will need to complete an Application for Cash Assistance, Food Stamps or Medicaid. Medicaid

Many families, elderly and disabled people are eligible for the Medicaid Program which pays for most medical costs, counseling services, therapies and social services. Eligibility is dependent on the person or families financial status. For people in extreme financial need there is no cost, for people with low to moderate incomes there may be a “spend down” or co-pay. To apply, you will need to complete an Application for Cash Assistance, Food Stamps or Medicaid. Food Stamps

Many families, elderly and single people in low income situations are eligible for the Food Stamp Program. This program is through the Federal Nutrition Services and is intended to help low income people buy necessary food products. The amount of Food Stamps is dependent on the person or families resources. In Ohio we use the Ohio Directions Card which is a debit card used at local grocery stores. To apply, you will need to complete an Application for Cash Assistance, Food Stamps or Medicaid. Utility Assistance

Families with children with low to moderate incomes who are unable to pay for utilities and are at risk of having their utilities shut off may be eligible for some assistance through Hardin County Job and Family Services. Persons applying for this service must have demonstrated financial responsibility by making payments within the past three months.

Families in which the head of household is disabled and in the process of applying for Social Security Disability Insurance may be eligible for interim state funded medical assistance until they are determined to be disabled or not. There are a variety of complicated eligibility requirements, call us if you have questions.

Transportation Services

Hardin County Job and Family Services is able to arrange and pay for transportation services for certain low and moderate income people. In order to get this service interested people should call us locally. These services are available for Medicaid Eligible people to Medicaid Eligible Providers. Arrangements must be made with our office 24 hours or more in advance of the appointment. Specialized arrangements can be made for employment, family reunification services, but, must be arranged through the agency.
